Round to the Nearest Integer Calculator

Round any number to the nearest whole number.

Round to the Nearest Integer Calculator

Round any number to the nearest whole number.

How it works

Standard rounding is applied to the ones place: 4.4 rounds down to 4, while 4.5 rounds up to 5.

What this does not include

This rounds to a whole number specifically — for a different magnitude, see this site’s other rounding calculators (nearest ten, hundred, tenth, hundredth, and thousandth).

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter a number.

How are negative numbers exactly halfway between two integers rounded?

Following standard JavaScript rounding convention, -4.5 rounds to -4 (toward positive infinity), not -5 — a subtle but consistent rule worth knowing if you’re checking results against another tool.

Is this the same as truncating decimals?

No — truncating simply chops off everything after the decimal point regardless of its value; rounding considers whether that fractional part is closer to the number above or below.

Why would I need to round to a whole number specifically?

Whole numbers are required whenever a fractional result doesn’t make sense in context — like a count of people, items, or units that can’t be split.

J. Adeyemi writes the statistics and probability calculators, from descriptive summaries through to distributions and conditional probability. The recurring theme is scope: each page states precisely which question it answers, because most statistical mistakes come from applying a correct formula to the wrong question. Related-but-different measures get separate pages rather than being quietly merged.

Every test case is recomputed independently rather than taken on trust.
