Adjusts a recipe’s stated microwave cooking time for a microwave of a different wattage than the recipe assumed.
How it works
The recipe’s cooking time is multiplied by the ratio of the recipe’s assumed wattage to your microwave’s actual wattage.
What this does not include
This is a linear approximation — real cooking results also depend on food mass, density, and each microwave’s actual power distribution, so treat the result as a starting point.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the recipe’s stated time and wattage, and your own microwave’s wattage.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a lower-wattage microwave need more time?
Because it delivers less energy per second, so reaching the same total energy (and the same cooking result) takes proportionally longer.
Where do I find my microwave’s wattage?
Usually printed inside the door, on the back panel, or in the owner’s manual.
Is this adjustment always exactly accurate?
No — it’s a reasonable starting estimate, but food type, quantity, and even microwave age can shift the ideal cooking time somewhat.
