8-Hour Shift Calculator

Calculate what time an 8-hour shift ends.

8-Hour Shift Calculator

Answers the common “what time do I get off work” question for a standard 8-hour shift, with an optional unpaid break added on top.

How it works

Eight hours (plus any unpaid break time) is added to the start time, wrapping past midnight if needed.

What this does not include

This does not include paid breaks — a paid break doesn’t extend the clock-out time, so only unpaid break minutes should be entered.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your shift start time and any unpaid break minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Why does an unpaid break extend the end time?

Because an unpaid break doesn’t count toward your 8 working hours — the clock effectively pauses during it, pushing your clock-out time later.

What if my shift starts late at night?

The calculator correctly wraps past midnight — a 10 PM start with an 8-hour shift ends at 6 AM the next day.

Does this work for shifts other than 8 hours?

This calculator is specifically built around the standard 8-hour shift; for other lengths, add the hours directly to your start time.

The aim is a page that answers the question in the first screen and explains the method underneath for anyone who wants it. Simple topics still deserve a stated method.
