Convert between kilopascals (kPa) and millimeters of mercury (mmHg) in either direction — common in medical and clinical pressure readings.
How it works
One millimeter of mercury is defined as exactly 133.322387415 pascals, so 1 kPa = 7.5006 mmHg. Enter a value in either field and the other updates instantly.
What this does not include
This is a plain unit conversion. It doesn’t interpret whether a given pressure reading is clinically normal or abnormal for any particular measurement context.
How to use this calculator
- Enter a value in kPa or mmHg.
- The other field updates automatically.
Why is mmHg still used for blood pressure when kPa is the SI unit?
Mercury manometers were the original blood pressure measurement instrument, and the mmHg unit stuck by convention even as most other pressure measurements moved to SI units like the pascal.
Is mmHg the same as “torr”?
Nearly identical — 1 torr is defined as 1/760 of a standard atmosphere, which differs from 1 mmHg by less than one part in seven million, close enough to be used interchangeably in almost all practical contexts.
Where else is kPa commonly used for pressure?
Tire pressure, weather barometric pressure, and many engineering and industrial pressure specifications outside the US commonly use kPa.
