Minecraft’s Nether dimension is scaled 1:8 relative to the Overworld — one block traveled in the Nether equals eight blocks in the Overworld, which this calculator converts between.

How it works

Dividing an Overworld coordinate by 8 gives the matching Nether coordinate; multiplying a Nether coordinate by 8 gives the matching Overworld coordinate.

What this does not include

This does not include block-counting for circular builds — for that, use this site’s Minecraft circle calculator instead.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose a conversion direction and enter the coordinate.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Nether scaled 1:8 to the Overworld?

It’s a deliberate game design choice that lets players travel long Overworld distances quickly by building a much shorter path through the Nether.

Does this work for both x and z coordinates?

Yes — the same 1:8 scale applies to both horizontal axes equally.

What about the y (vertical) coordinate?

The 1:8 scale only applies to the horizontal x and z axes — vertical height isn’t scaled between the two dimensions.
